The first thing a person should ask is whether a website is legitimate when seeking health information.
There is too much bogus information on the Internet. Here are some tips for screening health websites and health information.
Legitimate health websites should come with some sort of credentials to show their information is trustworthy. A good example is the HON certification. This is awarded to websites which have passed a rigorous inspection by the Health On The Net organization issuing this certification.
I did notice a curious thing about US government health related websites and their credentials. Sites which used to have the HON code certification no longer display the HON code banner.
Perhaps that is in keeping with how I feel about the current policies required to receive the HON certification. Some time ago, the Health On The Net organization began to charge an annual fee to receive certification and display the HON code banner.
I used to display my HON code banner on this health website but when a fee was charged I elected to stop using the HON certification. In my opinion, a legitimate certification shouldn't require an annual fee.
I was so impressed in the beginning because the certification was tough to get. Achieving the HON certification for my credentials was quite an honor.
I soured on the idea of a fee to get a certification. I think it just plain looks bad. It looks like people can buy a certification and I'm opposed to that. So I elected to drop the HON certification as part of my credentials as a matter of principle.
Why people find my information trustworthy and reliable.
I have decided to display my Doctorate diploma to help ease your mind about my credibility. This should help you decide whether the information and articles I present are trustworthy.
I'm not a medical doctor. My PhD is in Counseling Psychology. I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Central Washing University. I completed my studies at Charter University earning my Doctorate degree.
I spent my career helping people through therapy and counseling. I had my own private practice until my retirement.
